Located right on the coast, in a beautiful and scenic location Salerno and Amalfi town, Maiori has a pretty seafront, a historic church with beautiful tiled domes, a relaxing city center and the tall coastline and stunning views that make this area of Italy so special.

Maiori is pleasant and, compared with other towns in the area, has a more modern feel and flatter geography.

This makes it particularly inviting for families with young kids and strollers or anyone who is worried about the accessibility of this area, in many locations hard to negotiate if you have any nobility issues. .

These are the best things to see and do in Maiori

The Maiori Promenade

The town of Maiori develops between the coast and the mountains, a scenic position that makes it perfect to enjoy both sea and mountain view.

The town has a large and flat seafront promenade that is a perfect for lazy summer days.

The promenade has pretty trees, nice benches to rest and watch life pass by, a lovely playground for kids and a plethora of cafes and restaurant where to indulge I the specialties of the area.

The promenade is right beside the harbor and marina and it is easy to enjoy at all ages since it poses no mobility issues and its mostly flat.

Castello Mezzocapo and Norman Tower

The promenade has two beautiful landmarks which make a lovely start and end point for your walk.

Above the harbor, perched on a tall cliff, you will see the beautiful Castello Mezzocapo, which looks like a castle from a fairytale complete with pointy turrets, now a fantastic hotel.

The church towers above the rest of the city and what is special about it is its beautiful tiled dome, shining in the sun with yellow and green tiles.

Tiled domes are traditional of this area and what is great about this one is that you can see it from up close: since the church is on a slope, the path allows you to see the dome at eye level -wonderful!

Maiori Main street: Corso Reginna

Corso Reginna is the main commercial street in Maiori and starts/finishes at the seafront.

It is a large, flat road with a pedestrian part and it has a lot of shops and cafes: this road is one of the main reasons why i recommend Maiori as a base if visiting the Amalfi Coast with kids.

Unlike other localities this is an easy place where to have a stroll with a toddlers or a stroller – find why we recommend bringing a stroller to Italy and our tips here.

Have Lemon Granita

Maiori is famous for the production of lemons, the main ingredient of many regional dishes and the star ingredient of limoncello, typical of this area.

You can taste local lemons in many ways but one that is usually a hit with the whole family is granita, an icy and lemon sweet dessert perfect on hot summer days.

Walk Sentiero dei limoni

Maiori is connected to nearby Minori by a historical, scenic path called ‘the path of lemons’ (sentiero dei limoni).

This is a lovely, easy walks that allows you to see the many lemon groves of the area and also catch stunning views over the coast and the town below.

This is one of the best things to do in Maiori and while the path is not stroller friendly, a lovely walk to have with kids too.

Maiori with kids

As mentioned above, I believe Maiori is one of the best places on the Amalfi Coast for families with small kids.

The flat geography of the town, the nice beach and the playground on the seafront make up for the modern feel of the city and make it a functional base for visiting the Amalfi Coast with children.

How to get to Maiori

Maiori is well connected to Salerno and the rest of the coast by frequent buses and ferries, as well as the costiera, the scenic drive along the Amalfi Coast.

The best way to reach the town is by ferry: regular ferries connect Maiori with Salerno, Amalfi and Positano and allow you to move around fast and catching the stunning views of this stretch of coast – the Amalfi Coast is best seen from the water.

if you prefer to drive, make sure you arrange parking in advance with your hotel as parking in the area is tricky and potentially expensive.
