About Mama Loves Italy
Ciao and welcome to Mama Loves Italy!
My name is Marta, I am a travel loving mama, born and bred in that wonderful, contradictory, awe inspiring and unbelievably beautiful country that is Italy.
I call Rome home and lived in Italy for over 30 years.
However, after meeting the Irish man who became (and still is!) my husband, I swapped Rome’s dusty cobbled streets for the green pastures of Ireland and now I live in Dublin with my Irish husband and my to bilingual kids, currently 7 and 9.
We divide our time between the two countries and every time we are in Italy (usually about 4 times a year, including the summer months), I make an extra effort to show it to my kids, teach them about it and get them to love it as one of their homes.
This is my best chance to get them to familiarize and fall in love with Italy and it is also a great opportunity for me to rediscover and revisit places I have seen many times during my own childhood and adult years and that I myself love.
I am partial to Tuscany, the Dolomites and Puglia but seriously, I cannot really choose: every time I am in Italy, I simply cannot believe I am lucky enough to call this amazing country home!
I have travelled around Italy extensively and I am confident about teaching my kids about it. However, I often take tours and play tourist in my home country as I always learn something and some are great fun for the children so this is where the recommendations for tours on this website come from. I do not offer tours myself but I use them, so my recommendations are first hand!
What is Mama Loves Italy
Mama Loves Italy is a passion project of mine, a blog about Italy that mixes the knowledge of a local (me) with the awe of the visitor (me again).
I have opened it out of love for my country and also to help friends and visitors in general to make the most of their time in Italy.
Planning a trip to Italy is overwhelming for many, especially if you are visiting with kids, and I felt there was a need for a corner of the web just to help planning a family stay there.
On this website, you will find travel tips for visiting Italy (with kids and without), my personal recommendations on what to see, where to stay, what to pack, as well as curiosities about and stories about places and traditions.
This site is not only for families, as the name might suggest, but because I now experience Italy in the company of my kids, it is written from the point of view of a mom and a large part of it is about visiting Italy with little legs in tow.
With them, we go sightseeing (I am a huge advocate of sightseeing and doing ‘grown up’ tourism with kids) but we also go to the beach, eat out and and play, all things I will document on this site.
I don’t often travel around Italy on my own however, we do have the occasional weekend away just my husband and I so occasionally, you may find a guide about things to do that do not include kids.
If your ideal trip to Italy is a mix of sightseeing, family fun and food, Mama Loves Italy is the resource for you!
