Finding family-friendly accommodation in Florence is a daunting task.
The city is full of wonderful hotels and apartments for families.
However, part for the architecture of its ancient city center, part for the high demand that pushes prices up, when you look for a family room in Florence for 4 people or more, you see that options shrink fast, especially if you are looking at busy times such as Easter and other festivities.
I know this well. I love Florence and I am lucky enough to be from Rome, only a sort train ride away from it, I find myself here often. When I come, I love to stay the night as Florence is at its very best when the day trippers are gone! Sometimes I have come with the kids, sometimes with my husband for concerts, each time we have taken the opportunity to experience a different place to stay.
This is my shortlist of the best places to stay nn Florence with kids. I wrote it to complement my Florence with kids guide, which is an overview of the city and also covers activities, travel, tips etc.

The best areas to stay in Florence with kids
The best areas to stay in Florence with kids are the city center and the neighborhood of Oltrarno, which is immediately in front of the center but on the other side of the river.
Within Florence city center, you may see mentions of different areas such as Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, Borgo Ognissanti, San Marco, Santa Croce and more. This might make the decision about the best area to stay in Florence really confusing, but in reality, all these places are super close to one another and, really, once in the city, you wound’t even know which is which.
What happens is that hotels often mention the biggest landmarks they are close to, which makes sense, but in Florence, distances are so small that it really doesn’t matter if you are close to the Duomo, Signoria, Accademia or San Lorenzo, as each is no more than a few minutes walk from the other.
The only area that is partially a little further out (and still only few mins on foot) is Oltrarno, which is on the opposite side of the river.
All hotels and apartments in this post are in safe and convenient areas. Please do not worry about the proximity to the station of some of them: they are all chosen with safety in mind. Hotel Roma: mid-range family friendly hotel in Florence city center with adjoining rooms
Hotel Roma is a 4-star, family-friendly hotel overlooking fabulous Piazza Santa Maria Novella, right in Florence city center and only a short walk from the station but in a beautiful and safe area. The hotel overlooks Piazza Santa Maria Novella which is scenic and lovely for kids – lots of space to run around! – and it is close to absolutely everything a first time visitor to Florence may want to see and do, including gelato workshop 🙂

Grand Hotel Minerva – elegant family-friendly hotel with a swimming pool in Florence city center
On the same square as Hotel Roma, Grand Hotel Minerva is a wonderful hotel right beside the famous basilica of Santa Maria Novella, in the heart of Florence. This is a stunning hotel that I first got to know for their beautiful Christmas offering but is the perfect base all year round because it is beautiful, comfortable, well located and has excellent staff.

Hotel Davanzati is a nice, 3-star hotel in Florence city center offering budget, clean accommodation in rooms suitable for up to 4 guests. Hotel Pending is a nice, mid range hotel in a nice location in Florence city center, overlooking one of the best squares in Florence for kids: Piazza della Repubblica, which kids love because it has a carousel!

Casual Rinascimento hotel
A lovely hotel close to the Uffizi, in the very center of Florence, with nice family rooms for up to 4 people and indoor pool – not so common in Florence! The hotel is walking distance from all main landmarks in Florence and has a typical Florentine feel but with a bit of a twist: the hotel is decorated with art reminiscent of the renaissance but with a modern and fun touch! Relais Piazza Signoria, suites and apartments for up to 4 people
Relais Piazza Signoria takes its name from the famous and breathtaking landmarks it overlooks: Piazza della Signoria, possibly the most famous square in Florence!
The relais offers accommodation of different sizes, including one penthouse apartment that can host up to 4 people.
The exact facilities and layout of each apartment varies but overall, this relais offer: elevator access to the upper floors (you still may need to take some steps if going to the penthouse: ask reception before booking about the accessibility of the exact apartment you are looking at, especially if you have large luggage + stroller), Well-equipped kitchenette with oven and dishwasher for easy family meals, soundproofing : needed at busy times, since the square gets very crowded during the day (night is usually ok); free wi-fi, safe. Palazzo Belfiore is a cluster of fantastic apartments in a refurbished, historical house in Santo Spirito, which is beautiful, safe, quiet and local area.
The apartments have different sizes can host up to 6 people making them perfect for larger families. The apartments all have slightly different payout and characteristics, but they offer: fully equipped kitchen, air-con, free wi-fi, laundry facilities, safety box, concierge service, kids’ equipment (pack and play etc) on request, baby sitting service. Another fantastic place to stay in Florence with kids is HU Camping in town, which does exactly what its name suggests: it is a campsite with all the typical offerings of the holiday village (pools, activities, entertainment, kids etc) but it is IN Florence, so you can easily go sightseeing from there.
