Where to stay in Florence with kids: 15 family-friendly hotels and apartments in Florence you’ll love
Where to stay in Florence with kids: a handpicked selection of family-friendly hotels in Florence and Florence apartments suitable for families with kids, chosen for location, facilities, and family friendliness.
Finding family-friendly accommodation in Florence is a daunting task.
The city is full of wonderful hotels and apartments for families.
However, part for the architecture of its ancient city center, part for the high demand that pushes prices up, when you look for a family room in Florence for 4 people or more, you see that options shrink fast, especially if you are looking at busy times such as Easter and other festivities.
To secure good family accommodation in Florence, it is a good idea to book well in advance and to keep and open mind about where in the city to stay.
Florence is small enough and well served enough that you don’t have to be right beside the duomo to enjoy.
To help you in your search, I have put together this list of family-friendly accommodation in Florence that comprises both family hotels and family-friendly apartments.
It is based on my own experience of Florence with kids, hotels and areas we stayed at but also on the experience of other parents and trustworthy friends who shared with me their best family accommodation finds.
None of these addresses are just pulled from the web on the basis of reviews only, they come from parents who stayed!

The best areas to stay in Florence with kids
The best areas to stay in Florence with kids are the city center and the neighborhood of Oltrarno, which is immediately in front of the center but on the other side of the river.
Within Florence city center, you may see mentions of different areas such as Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, Borgo Ognissanti and more; they are all slightly different pars of the city but they are very close to one another and they are all good.
So, I would recommend not worrying too much about where exactly in the center you are. In many cases, the distances are small enough for the difference to be irrelevant and Florence center is stunning no matter where you are!
In general:
The area around the duomo is beautiful busy and caught after by visitors. You find many accommodation options, many restaurants, shops and, depending on the exact street, you may find yourself in a very busy one or quiet one. The cost of high quality accommodation here tends to be high as the demand is huge.
- Distances on foot:
- Station: less than 10 mins walk
- Piazza della Signoria/Uffizi: less than 10 mins
- Ponte Vecchio: less than 10 mins
- Accademia: less than 10 mins
The area of Piazza della Signoria is immediately beside that of the duomo and I only separate them in this article as I know many accommodation providers use one ladnark or the other to explain where they are. In reality duomo or piazza della signoria both mean he bvery heart of Florence so your’ experience ill be largely the same!
- Distances on foot:
- Station: 10/15 mins
- Duomo: less than 10 mins
- Ponte vecchio: less than 5 mins
- Accademia: less than 15 mins
Ponte Vecchio is another major landmark in Florence and is home to beautiful upscale hotels. The river quey is called Lungarno: when looking for accommodation on Lungarno, always check where on Lungarno you are as it is quite a long road!
Staying close to Ponte Vecchio means being close to Florence’s main landmarks.
- Distances on foot:
- Station: about 10 mins
- Duomo: less than 10 mins
- Piazza della Signoria/Uffizi: less than 5 mins
- Accademia: less than 15 mins
Borgo Ognissanti is a nice, central neighborhood between the train station and the river.
Only a short walk from the duomo, it is quieter than the area immediately around the church, has a little more of a local feel, yet still very conveniently located.
I find this a very pleasant area to stay as the slightly longer walk is compensated by the quieter and more local feel of the neighborhood.
- Distances on foot:
- Station: less than 5 minutes
- Duomo: less than 15 minutes
- Accademia: 15/20 mins
- Piazza della Signoria: less than 15 minutes
- Ponte Vecchio: 10 minuites
Oltrarno is the area on the other side of the river from the duomo, its name literally translating ‘beyond the Arno’.
This area is beautiful and a little more local in feel than the area of the duomo, yet it is still very well located for sightseeing and full of places to eat and shop.
In this part of Florence, you will see mentions of San Frediano and Santo Spirito Spirito area and you will be close to Boboli Gardens and Piazzale Michelangelo.
- Distances on foot:
- Station: about 15 mins
- Duomo: less than 15 minutes
- Piazza della Signoria/Uffizi: less than 10 mins
- Ponte Vecchio: Less than 5 mins
- Accademia: 15/20 mins
Other areas: Florence has many beautiful neighborhoods outside of the immediate center. I am very fond of the one called Le Cure, which is a short bus ride away from the center and it is super family-oriented and local and hotels beside Parco delle Cascine are also a good family option. If you don’t find accommodation immediately beside the duomo, don’t be afraid to look a little further out.
