Great vacation rentals in Venice for families: family-friendly apartments and Airbnb in Venice you and your kids will love

Tried and tested family-friendly vacation rentals in Venice, Italy. Chosen by real parents for location, facilities and welcome.

In a previous article, we looked at family-friendly hotels in Venice.

Today, I want to expand on the list of recommended accommodation options for families with kids in Venice with a list of kid-friendly vacation rentals and Airbnb for families, all tried and tested, of course!

The list below has been compiled by me based on my personal experience of Venice and the experience of real parents who shared their experiences in each of these places with me.

These parents are not paid to review places and did not get them for free (neither did I!).

They are parents who visited Venice with kids and were so kind and generous to share with me their finds.

If you want to virtually meet them (and me!), scroll to the bottom of this page and join us in my free Italy with kids Facebook group: they are a fab group of people and you’d be welcome to join us!

Now, let’s get to the reasons why sometimes an apartment can work better than a hotel in Venice and some great addresses I hope you will love!

Why choose an Airbnb / vacation rental in Venice as a family

Getting an apartment in Venice offers many advantages over a standard hotel.

The main ones are:

More space – hotels in Italy in general and in Venice, in particular, tend to have smaller rooms, only suitable for groups of a maximum of 4 people.

While this is not an absolute rule, as we showed in the article about hotels linked above, a rental is more likely to deliver if you have a larger family or want more rooms and private space.

Rentals often work out cheaper than hotels – especially for larger groups

Since many hotels do not offer large rooms, especially if traveling with teenagers who need proper beds and some space, you may have to book two separate rooms.

This can be uncomfortable and potentially unsafe, in the case of younger kids, and it usually works out very expensive since many hotels simply charge two full room rates and do not make provisions for families.

An apartment often offers a better option as the cost doesn’t necessarily double with each additional room.

It is easier to keep your kids’ routine

If you have little kids or toddlers, staying in an apartment might mean you will be able to keep some elements of their routine.

This, in turn, can help little ones settle in an unfamiliar location.

During our trips, we noticed that being able to cook the occasional familiar food went a long way to help the children feel at home.

It also allows us to enjoy better meals out, since we could settle their stomachs at home first!

Cooking can also be a great way not to blow the budget on meals out, which are notoriously expensive in Venice.

How we chose these family-friendly vacation rentals in Venice

As I mentioned above, this list of family-friendly rentals in Venice comes from my own experience and that of parents in my Italy with kids Facebook Group.

I have included apartments that meet the following criteria:

  • Good, family-friendly location in Venice proper (aka Venice main islands, not Mestre or other mainland locations)
  • Accepting of small kids
  • Equipped with kitchen/kitchenette
  • With a friendly, reliable, responsive owner
  • With proper heating (for winter)
  • With wi-fi

Good to know:

  • Only one of them (see below) doesn’t offer air conditioning. In that case, I have specified it in the description as it can still be a fantastic place, outside of the hot summer months.
  • A couple of them do not offer a washing machine. However, one is attached to a good 4star hotel that can help you with all your needs and the other one has a laundrette nearby.
  • Unfortunately, due to the nature of Venice housing, not all apartments have an elevator and some may require the use of stairs.

I have not excluded apartments with steps as these are the majority in Venice, so please do not be surprised if this list of family vacation rentals includes some that are not all step-free.

As you will see, most of these apartments are in the area of Cannaregio: this is because this neighborhood strikes a great balance between proximity to the station, central location and local feel.

Ca’ delle Muneghe Antico Convento del XVI secolo Venice rental for up to 8 people

Ca’ delle Muneghe (lit: house of the nuns, since it is hosted in what used to be an ancient convent) is a lovely, large apartment in Venice Cannaregio with room for up to 8 people.

The apartment has 4 bedrooms (6 beds), 3 bathrooms and the owners can provide a baby cot, on request – just let them know at the time of booking should you need one.

The apartment checks pretty much all out boxes as a family-friendly rental but truly stands out for its exceptional hosts, which go above and beyond by providing not just the essentials but a proper warm welcome.

  • 4 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms

San Teodoro Palace hotel luxury apartments – up to 8 guests

San Teodoro Apartments are beautifully equipped family friendly apartments in San Marco, right in the heart of Venice.

These apartments come in several sizes and can host up to 4, 6 and 8 people.

The vacation rental called Evelina Apartments is a modern, newly refurbished apartment in a typical Venetian building from the XVI century in the Cannaregio district of Venice (my favorite area!).

  • Quiet location in Venice Cannaregio, close to the station
  • Fully equipped kitchen

  • Air conditioning
  • Heating
  • Baby cot
  • Baby plates and cutlery
  • Wifi
  • Airbnb Plus + Host has Airbnb superhost status

The apartment is in the lovely area of Cannaregio, and it is close to the station, the Vaporetto stop and has shops and restaurants nearby.

Despite all these facilities near the house, the apartment is quiet and has a lovely, residential, Venetian feel.

I marked this Venice apartment as great for babies and toddlers due to the extra attention for them, but it is perfectly spacious and suitable also for families with teenagers (who will also enjoy the vibrant area and local restaurants nearby)
