Where to stay on the Dolomites with kids: fantastic family friendly hotels in the Dolomites you’ll love
Fantastic family friendly hotels on the Dolomites you and your kids will love for facilities, welcome, location (summer and winter)
The Dolomites have only recently become a popular destination with overseas visitors, but have been a firm favorite of my family for over four decades.
I first went to the Dolomites with my parents when I was six and that first family holiday was so successful, we kept going there every year for over twenty years in a row (our hotel even gave is a badge as loyal guests!).
After I got kids myself, the family vacations on the Dolomites have continued and my son just last summer declared ‘This is my favorite place in the whole world’.
So basically, if you are looking at tips for the best family friendly hotels in the Dolomites, now you know I have the personal experience to recommend some!
Over the years, we have stayed in many locations and stayed in many different hotels, some more basic and some more upscale.
I have talked here about the best areas to stay in the Dolomites with kids. Today, I go a little narrower in scope and list family resorts in the Dolomites with special activities and attention for kids.
Safe travels!
Family friendly hotels in the Dolomites: need to know
Before we dive into our list of recommended family hotels, a couple of considerations:
- The Dolomites span over a large area and driving from one place to the other takes time.
Therefore, if there are specific slopes, cable cars, lakes or hikes you want to take, make sure you pick a resort close to them.
- The experience of the Dolomites landscape and welcome is not significantly different if you choose one location over the other, so don’t stress about where is ‘best’ to stay (unless you have specif plans, see point above!)
This area sees a lot of returning tourism so often people recommend as best what they personally like most, often for personal attachment to childhood memories. All the places on this list are wonderful.
- Since this area sees a lot of returning tourism, things book out fast! Recurring guests often have a recurring booking year on year.
This means that when looking at bookings you may find everything sold out. If so, contact the hotel and ask to be put on a waiting list as not all pre-bookings turn into confirmations and cancellations do happen.
- The best times to be on the Dolomites are the winter (for snow) and the summer (July-August) for hikes. Outside of these times, ask your hotel what is open locally as many things may not operate in low season.
- Many hotels here offer half board and this is the only part of Italy where I think it is actually worth eating at the restaurant hotel. The Sudtyrol food is amazing and hotel restaurants are among the best places to taste it!
The vast majority of hotels in this area are not just kid friendly but offer something specific to kids, such as playgrounds, pools and indoor entertainment such as table tennis or fussball.
So if you don’t see one you like on this list, don’t stress, it is hard to find a family unfriendly places in this area!
These are resorts that offer that little more for kids and our family favorites. I hope you find this list useful!
