Minori is one of my favorite towns on the Amalfi Coast and the place I recommend to elect as your base if you want to experience a quieter, dare I say even local side of the famous Amalfi Coast.
It is a town I always love to visit and since I am from Rome, I am well versed in the different transport options available to cover that distance.
Getting from Rome to Minori is easy. Yet, since the town is smaller than others in the area, the journey may require more than one mean of transport.
On this page, I share the best ways to get from Rome to Minori for all budgets. I hope you find it helpful!
I’ll discuss:
- How far Minori is from Rome (so you are not surprised by the prices of private transport providers!)

Rome to Minori TL:DR (summary)
Minori is 274Km / 170 miles South of Rome.
The town is on the Amalfi Coast, right on the sea, along the scenic Amalfi Coast drive, the beautiful and winding road along famous cliffs of the Italian Costiera.
To cover this significant distance, there are three ways:
- By car (your own, or with driver)
- By a combination of train and car
- By a combination of train and ferry
- By a combination of train + bus
- Driving
Which one is best for you comes down to budget, season and people in your party. At a glance:
| Transport | Budget | Available |
| By car (driver) | High – best for comfort and people who do not want to deal with public transport | All seasons |
| By train and car | Medium | All seasons |
| By Train and Ferry | Low / Medium | Spring, summer and early fall only |
| By train + bus | Low | All seasons |
| Driving | Low to high | All seasons |
Need to know if traveling outside high tourism season: ferries only run along the Amalfi Coast in the good season. Usually, this means you have ferry service from Mid March to late October: the schedule is fullest in the months of June, July and August when demand is higher. Minori has a few ferry arrivals / departure per day, during daytime hours only.
The best way to get from Rome to Minori with kids
If you have a high budget, the best way to get to Minori from Rome with kids is by private car service. This is an expensive option but is door to door service and you can get a car with child seats.
The best way to get from Rome to Minori with kids if you want to keep costs in check if train + car or, my very favorite, train + ferry.
Trains and ferries have special prices for kids and the view from the boats is amazing! Read more tips for families here >>> visiting the Amalfi Coast with kids.

How to get from Rome to Minori by car service
If you are looking for comfort and have the budget to get a car with driver, getting car service to Minori is by far the easiest thing to do.
The distance between Rome and Minori is about 270km / 170 miles, so the drive takes almost four hours.
However, the road is freeway/ motorway for the most part, so you can expect large part of the trip to be comfortable and fast, with options of rest stops.
The last bit of the drive, on the other hand, is along the scenic Amalfi Coast drive: this is a bendy road with lovely views, but does require slower driving and may cause some motion sickness in people prone to it. The drive takes about 45 minutes.
Despite this, car service to Minori is a great option if you want door to door service, have a lot of luggage or do not want to hop between ferry and train.
The biggest disadvantages to this way of travel are cost (car service in Italy is very expensive) and potential traffic on the Amalfi Coast road.
Good to know! Many car service providers are able to stop in Pompeii on the way! This can be a fun and easy way to see Pompeii without having to drive back here from the coats for the day. A great provider offering this options is LivTours (one of my absolute favorite providers of tours in Italy – pricey but OUTSTANDING): they can pick you up, drive and guide you around Pompeii and customize the guided tour and day exactly as you need. They can pick you up from Rome, Salerno or Naples.
Car service providers you can use are: Welcome Pickups or Rainbow Limos
How to get from Rome to Minori by train and car (all seasons)
Another great way to get to Minori from Rome is by catching a fast train to Salerno and then a local car transfer to Minori itself.
This option is great as it is comfortable, often significantly cheaper than a car transfer all the way from Rome and saves you from having to coordinate the schedule of train, bus and ferry, since your driver can wait for you at the station.

The closest train station to Minori is Salerno.
From Rome, you board at Roma Termini and get off in Salerno. From the drive is only you can get there by high-speed train from Rome in about 2 hours direct.
You can lead here >>> how to use trains in Italy.
From Salerno, the drive to Minori takes about 45 minutes, traffic permitting.
Getting from Rome to Minori by train and bus
If you want to avoid cars and taxis, you can also get to Minori from Salerno by bus. The bus serving this stretch is operated by SITA and you want line 5120, which connects Salerno to Amalfi.
This is the slowest yet the most budget friendly way to reach Minori. You can find the bus schedule here
How to get to Minori from Rome by train and ferry (April to October only)
My favorite way to reach the Amalfi Coast from Rome is by combining train to Salerno and ferry to Minori.
The Amalfi Coast in general is stunning from the water and you cannot beat the impression of that magical view as you get a first get a glimpse of it from the water!
Also, the ferries are cheap and reliable so you can get to your destination in a budget-friendly way!
The ferry port is close to the Salerno rain station and you can walk between the station and the piers in a matter of minutes.

From Rome, your journey would look like this:
Board the high speed train in Roma Termini, get off at Salerno
Walk a few minutes to Salerno ferry port: as you come out of the station, reach the main road and you’ll see the sea: as you reach it, you’ll see the pier.
Catch the ferry to Minori: you can get tickets online in advance or on the spot.
The company serving this stretch is TravelMar, you can check the schedule and get tickets here >>> travelmar.it
How to get from Rome airport to Minori
The closest airport to Amalfi Coast is Naples.
However, it is also possible to reach Minori also from Rome’s Fiumicino airport, adding about 30 minutes to one hour to any of the options above.
There are three ways to get to Minori from Fiumicino:
Car – see above for pros and cons. The distance, in this case, is about 300km/ 186 miles
Train – there is no direct train between Rome’s airport and Salerno. In this case, you want to catch a train from Fiumicino Airport into Roma Termini station and then board the one to Salerno.
You can read here >>> how to make your way from Rome Fiumicino to the main train station in Rome.
Anther option is to get the once-a-day- train to Naples and then make your way to Minori by car from there (longer drive)
Driving Rome to Minori – what you need to know
It is also possible to drive from Rome to Minori.
In this case, you would drive from Rome to Salerno along the motorway and then onto the local road along the Coast.
There are a few things to keep in mind if you opt for this solution (which is why it is not one of my favorite options:
The Amalfi Coast scenic road is bendy, high and trafficked. I only recommend driving here if you are not afraid of heights and are an experienced driver.
In high season, access to this road is regulated according to a reg plate system: if you are staying in Minori on days when traffic is regulated, ask your host for the document allowing you to enter
Parking in Minori is limited and very hard. Make sure you make plans to leave the car before committing.
If you have never driven in Italy before, I recommend you read our intro guides on the matter:
I hope this transport guide helped you plan how to get from Rome to Minori. Safe travels!
